Stones Produced in Türkiye
In this post, we will talk about stones mined in Türkiye as far as overall stats and try to give some numbers.
Travertine:
Türkiye holds the largest known reserves in the world by approximately half of the world’s total sources, and it is the global leader in Travertine production with an estimated 1.2 million tons each year or more. This translates to an export volume of more than 1 billion $. Turkey is followed Iran, Italy and Mexico.
Marble:
Türkiye owns approximately 40% of the world’s known marble reserves which puts the country to #1 spot on this. In terms of production it comes only after China, by around 8 Million tons each year. In terms of volume produced, Türkiye is followed by India, Italy and Iran.
Granite:
Türkiye is one of the well known players in Granite industry. The country produces approximately 12 million tons each year. Note that out of all stones discussed inn this post, granite is the most commonly found. It is basically found in most mountain ranges of the world which means a lot of countries own significant granite reserves.
Onyx:
Onyx is one of the less frequent stones in comparison to the ones mentioned above. Türkiye is the global leader in production, with approximately 90,000 tons each year.
Note that it is not an easy task to obtain accurate figures for the stats listed above, not only because of lack of accurate data availability and means to estimate but also the numbers naturally fluctuate based on the amount of mining activities, market demand and international trade agreements. Therefore the numbers represent best estimates obtained by AI based on a broad synthesis of information from various sources such as country level reports, general industry data, information from global stone markets, typical yearly production and export values.
